Narrative
What is the narrative, the story, the point of view of the piece…
These are questions we must ask ourselves early on as pinpointing these details early will impact the way content is created and curated.
For example if the story is about fear from the point of view of a child then the camera POV will need to be low and scale intensity maximised to denote a feeling of being small, this means due to equirectangular distortion we need to consider how actors, objects and lights are positioned to suit this emotion.
Activity
Looking at the examples to the right could you work out what the narrative of these images could be? How do they make you feel and what would the pacing be like?
Agency
When exploring agency we are in fact looking at the driving factors and motivations behind what we are being presented with and the pace in which the information is being presented to the audience.
The choices made by the audience and main characters is what we are essentially exploring such as why should we be directed to look in any one direction and the pacing which context and content is displayed to us.
Agency within 360 content as with VR content is about choice and the value content in this context is adding to the overall narrative, how much control are we presented with and the pace in which information / media content is being shown to us.
Presence
The level of presence within 360 and VR content is relating to the overall level of immersion the end user has with the media being presented and the feeling of involvement and engagement they have with the overall narrative.
Are the audiences an active participant within the story or are they are an observer this distinction will ultimately impact the level of presence they feel which in turn will have an impact on the level of immersion achieved.
