3DOF

Three degrees of freedom denotes the amount of movement a 3D object or in our case the user has over what they can view within a space. 3DOF corresponds to the rotational movement around a central x, y and z axes otherwise commonly know as pitch (transverse axis), yaw (normal axis) and roll (longitudinal axis) around a central point.

6DOF

Six degrees of freedom goes beyond rotational values and includes positional movement within 3D space, this allows users and objects to move through 3D space and thus achieve higher levels of immersion and depth. The user can move forwards/backwards (surge), up/down (heave) and left/right (sway) translation in these three perpendicular axes alongside rotational changes.
